Brazilian billionaire investor Jorge Paulo Lemann once said that a company’s greatest asset is its people. It’s a statement that certainly rings true here at Acorn Safety Services.

We know how vital it is to have great people in your team, in order to ensure great service and great success. All our new recruits are chosen with great care.

Over the last three years, we have more than doubled our workforce from seven to 19 people, in a drive to expand our services in order meet increased customer demand.

Growing the team

Additions to the team have been strategic and organic and specifically chosen to fit with our inclusive and can-do culture.

Last year we added an Operations Coordinator, Samantha Reeves, who was quickly promoted to Operations Manager, as well as a Legionella Manager and Legionella consultant.

In the last six months alone, Acorn Safety Services has appointed five new Fire Safety starters – four fire risk assessment consultants and a trainee fire risk assessor – plus two legionella consultants in the Legionella team.

Recently, the addition of a fire and health and safety consultant brought the headcount up to 19.

Investing in our people

We are proud of the environment we have created in our workplace. The welfare of our team is of great importance to us. We offer all our employees regular, impartial welfare meetings with an in-house manager to ensure all staff, including consultants working remotely, maintain a healthy work/life balance and prioritise personal wellbeing.

This includes measures like adjusting schedules to allow for longer work days followed by shorter days, enabling employees to better manage their time and energy. All staff can access a mental health support programme.

We are also passionate about helping every member of the team to reach their full potential and support the workforce with career development.

Staff are regularly given the opportunity to improve their skills and widen their knowledge, through career development and sharing best practice.

It doesn’t stop here

Our plans to grow continue, alongside the demand for our services. We are responsive to the market and with recently won large contracts and word of mouth referrals, plus external influences through new or amended health and safety legislation, we are finding that demand continues to grow.

Are you a duty holder under CDM 2015? Here’s what you need to do

The UK Construction (Design & Management) regime was introduced to improve health and safety during construction projects. The latest version of the legislation, which took effect in 2015, brought in some changes, and if you’re a duty holder under CDM it’s important to understand your role within a project.

Failing to comply with CDM regulations has serious ramifications including hefty fines, and the potential for litigation and criminal charges in some cases. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the body responsible for managing…
