Committed to remaining at the forefront of Health and Safety

This month we attended the UK’s largest gathering for people who are responsible for running a safe and efficient workplace.

The Health & Safety Event ran over three days at the beginning of September at the NEC Birmingham and attracted more than 16,000 workplace professionals from the industrial, commercial and public sector.

The hugely popular event featured a range of seminars, practical workshops and a packed exhibition hall and as well as attracting health and safety experts it also enticed decision makers from across HR, manufacturing, construction, government and engineering.

The packed seminar programme was free to attend and gave attendees access to high quality educational content, including legal and regulation updates, interactive sessions and best practice case studies.

Three directors of our team at Acorn Safety Services – Ian Stone, Neil Munro and Paul Knights – took time out of their busy schedules to visit the event because we are always keen to keep abreast of the very latest developments in the world of health and safety.

The event provided us with a great opportunity to network with lots of other businesses and to spend time with other leading organisations to identify if there is anything more we can offer or improve upon by working with other businesses which are also at the forefront of their industries.

We are proud to be recognised as one of the UK’s leading health and safety consultancies and we are not content to rest on our laurels. We attend events like The Health & Safety Event to help us remain at the cutting edge of developments in our industry because we’re passionate about promoting the importance of undertaking effective health and safety measures within the workplace. Our constant endeavour is to help individuals, schools, businesses, organisations and local authorities to practice health and safety management and protect people from harm.

So, we offer a wide range of comprehensive health and safety services, including a retained health and safety consultant service, construction health and safety audits and inspections, fire risk assessments, personal emergency evacuation plans and acting as CDM Consultants and CDM Advisors.

However, providing high quality services is not enough for us – we always want to go above and beyond in the pursuit of health and safety. This is why our directors wrote our highly acclaimed book, Fear and Loathing of Health and Safety.

With ever-increasing HSE investigations and new government-backed regulations we wanted to provide people with an important source of information that could stop them from making costly health and safety mistakes.

Our book helps people to understand what health and safety is all about – the scary truths and the reasons why the regulations are in place. It provides people with top tips to help them find the right health and safety consultant for their business, the core health and safety basics they need to have in place and a step-by-step guide on how to write their own health and safety policy. It even includes seven simple steps to help readers take control of their asbestos management.

This book is a hugely valuable resource and the information within it can genuinely save lives and protect companies from prosecutions so we chose to offer it for free.

It only takes a quick look on Amazon for you to see that there is a huge market for health and safety books – many of which are on sale for significant prices. We could have chosen to command a high price for our book – we’re proud to say that we have lots of glowing five-star reviews for it – but we chose to make ours freely available because we want as many people as possible to use it to keep themselves and others safe.

This is also the reason we offer a free health and safety review survey with our leading health and safety expert John Crockett. In our free surgery callers get a 30-minute video call where they have the chance to discuss and diagnose any health and safety compliance issues.

Callers are taken through our 20-point Health and Safety Compliance Audit which forms the basis of their complimentary compliance report to help them identify their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to health and safety.

We offer fantastic things like this for free because when we say our goal is to help firms keep people safe in the workplace and to protect companies from health and safety prosecutions we are prepared to put our money where our mouth is.

We have the capability to exceed the diverse needs of all our clients – from conducting a site safety inspection of a construction site to ensuring safety in schools by performing fire risk assessments, to providing CDM consultancy services on behalf of Duty Holders and many more. Whatever your requirements, we have the ability, experience and certification to execute any project with success and always to your satisfaction.

Our clients can rest safe in knowledge that with us on their side they will be protected from harm and the ever-growing pressures of health and safety legislation because we are always striving to provide them with the best health and safety services available in the UK.
